Reality augmenting contact lenses coming soon….

Techmaxima news Blog

In a nutshell:
All the basic technologies needed to build functional contact lenses are in place. We’ve tested our first few prototypes on animals, proving that the platform can be safe. What we need to do now is show all the subsystems working together, shrink some of the components even more, and extend the RF power harvesting to higher efficiencies and to distances greater than the few centimeters we have now.

Why we might have more faulty gadgets these days…

Foxconn investigation

The next time you wanna blog/post in your fav forum/write to the press abt a faulty gadget from a branded electronics brand.. think again….. The working conditions where they produced these things are not in line with international labour standards….and they are treated more like robotic slaves who works more then 12 hours a day, most likely to have just one off day a month…. and no, i am not talking about your maid…

The stereotypical portrayal of a gamer: A fat geek buried deep in his fav couch punching the buttons away on his controller is gonna change very soon….

No Strings (or Controllers) Attached.

Introducing Project Natal, a revolutionary new way to play: no controller required. See a ball? Kick it, hit it, trap it or catch it. If you know how to move your hands, shake your hips or speak you and your friends can jump into the fun — the only experience needed is life experience.

Google’s Data Center secrets revealed!

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

From:Here

After years of secrecy (maybe because they thought no one was interested), Google held its “Data Center Efficiency Summit” yesterday, where the company showed off one of its DCs and custom web servers — all in a bid to evangelize for energy efficiency. The green angle means that everything has been planned for optimum power use, from the 1AAA shipping containers (sporting over a thousand servers each) that make up the core of its operations, to the servers themselves — each containing its own 12-volt UPS. This design is said to boast a staggering 99.9 percent energy efficiency, as opposed to a standard centralized UPS setup which at best would only score 95 percent. According to CNet, these are efficiency levels that the EPA doesn’t envision as practical until at least 2011. But that ain’t all — hit that read link for the whole sordid affair, but not before you check out the video of a server itself after the break.

Why WiMax and LTE Wireless 4G Data Will Blow Your Mind

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Interesting article from this source

I have heard of WiMAX implementation over here in Singapore (Singtel trial) but did not really see any ‘Live’ applications running on this yet when it’s been on the media for a few years. On paper, it can achieve 300Mbps OTA! Seriously i dun think it will get pass 100Mbps due to hardware and regulation restrictions.

IBM files Matrix style bullet dodging patent

Friday, February 13th, 2009

From: here

Yes, we could all be like Neo from The Matrix, dodging bullets in style!
Last week IBM was issued a patent that in theory would give us mortals that ability.

The patent proposes a system where an external device monitors the area for incoming projectiles. If it detects a projectile headed near a person hooked into the system it can either shock their muscles in order to move their body a particular way to dodge the bullet, Neo style, or it could simply make the intended target collapse.

Recompute: a closer look at the sustainable, cardboard PC

recompute

This is one of the entries in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition that’s happening in New York on February 27th. The link is from here.

==============================

Recompute is a new way of thinking about computers that layers sustainable ideas throughout its lifecycle to make an overall sustainable product that can be easily replicated. Recompute address sustainability along three main points during its life.

Manufacturing: Rather than making a large tower constructed from numerous materials (ABS plastic, aluminum, steel, etc.), hundreds of manufacturing processes, and dozens of individual components, the Recompute case is made of corrugated cardboard (recyclable and renewable). There are four low-impact manufacturing processes to assemble Recompute: Die cutting, gluing (with non-toxic white glue), printing and electronic assembly. Recompute uses only three major electronic components: A motherboard with processor & memory, power supply, and a hard drive.

Use: Recompute is designed to allow the user to take advantage of existing hardware. For example; use the keyboard from a previous computer. For additional flexibility, external hardware customization is easy via 8 USB ports.

Disposal: Electronic components need to be properly recycled as they contain toxic heavy metals. However, this is often skipped because dismantling of computers is difficult. Recompute can be disassembled without tools, so the electronics and case can be easily recycled individually.

Oh yes, Recompute is a real working computer.
